Review of the new Lia Wallet from Peony & Moore
A wallet as an integral part of you. Your organisational effectiveness is based on how good your wallet is and quite frankly the style of wallet is reflective of your personality to some degree. Therefore the choice for a new one is an important one. For me, it has to have pockets, zips, plenty of compartments & be big enough to hold a cheque book, notes, a mountain of credit cards/business cards plus all the other paraphernalia I insist on carrying around with me.
Its a considered purchase, so when I saw the Peony & Moore Lia wallet I was excited. It looked organised. It looked sassy. It looked like me, but did it come up trumps in the road test or fall by the wayside.
On first inspection, it doesn't look that huge, yes its roomy at 19cm Wide by 11cm high, with a depth empty of 3.5cm but it doesn't seem cavernous. I am used to a beloved old Ralph Lauren one which I bought 10 years ago in Bloomingdales in New York, any new comer has big shoes to fill.
I liked the lovely sheen on the leather, it looks like it would remain unflustered when booted about my handbag, taken in and out on a regular basis and generally treated with little disregard on a daily basis. It would brush off the wear and tear and looked wipeable, hugely important whilst 2yr old sticky hands are always close by.
The popper closure was secure, looked sturdy, looked unbreakable. I liked that, so I opened it. Inside you are presented with 2 neat rows of credit card holders, 12 slots for your highest ranking cards no less. At the top of the view I could also see peeking 2 long open slots for notes, and hold your breath, they both looked like they would take a cheque book. Although days are numbered for the faithful friendly cheque book it still has a special place in my wallet for now as I clasp hold of stationary and avoid eye contact with online banking.
So, the first open view is a pleasant experience. I delve deeper and find the left hand credit card holder section is actually a flap which can be opened as well, to reveal 6 more credit card holders, for lesser ranking cards, as well as a full size photograph pocket for pictures of loved ones, not so loved ones or your latest parking ticket. Perfect. I can also spy from this vantage point a lovely cotton grey and white striped lining which is peeking out from the photograph holder and the note slots. Great touch, looks classy and means the pockets are easy to look into.
So now the purse is fully opened infront of me, I can also see it has 2 side pockets which sit underneath the credit card slots, again full size so they would also be perfect for receipts, notes, a handsome man's telephone number, that sort of thing. I like.
In summary then, it has18 credit card slots to use, I can now say 'yes' to more loyalty cards and store cards, oh the excitement. I also have a photograph holder, 2 slot pockets as well as 2 full size note holders.
On closing this whole compartment, I turn it over to inspect the rear and am delighted to find a coin purse on the back. Again held securely shut with a popper, this compartment has 2 pockets for coins and is completed with the very thoughtful grey striped cotton lining. I can see my coins at all times. Very important when you require a small 20p at speed when at the swimming pool lockers.
Finally, did I mention the colour? Reflective of my personality, oh yes! A hot pink fuschia, happy and sunny but not childish. It's a grown up pink, it's for a women who wants to smile every time she opens her purse, and let me tell you right now, thats me all over! For those wishing a more sensible choice, it also comes in a lovely soft nubuck camel and a travel version in a gorgeous grey.
I am in love. My Ralph Lauren has been relegated and I have a new best friend. It comes out with me, it makes me smile, it's useful and supremely practical. It gains admiring glances from sales assistants and girlfriends, and above all I can find my stuff. It's simple. It's mine.
