Which circulated coins are worth saving for future value since metals change, some are discontinued or rarer?
If you're talking about current coins, there really aren't any.
Modern US coins are minted in huge amounts, and there are usually enough nice uncirculated coins available that coins with wear just aren't worth much over face value.
For example, if you run across a nickel from say the late 1940's, you're talking about a coin that is at least 60 years old. Unless it's got just the tiniest amount of wear, it's only worth face value--and "modern" coins (say, anything after about 1970) are minted in ten or 100 times the quantity of that nickel. Since the value of a coin is determined by supply vs. demand, you can image how long it will be before a common circulated 1992 nickel is going to be worth something.
The exception to that rule would be cents that were minted before 1982. They're 95% copper, and the copper in them is worth about 2 1/2 cents each.
