Ideas For Adding Touches of French Charm to Any Home
However, one classic look that absolutely never seems to go out of style is French Country. Even if you don't have the money to redesign your entire home in the Gallic style, you can still add those little touches that will bring the warmth of French charm into any room. Here are some ideas to get you started.
New Paint Colors
Changing the color of your walls is inexpensive, and it can have the most dramatic effect of all. French Country colors are warm and sunny: like a shimmering hot day in Provence. Wall colors range from warm beige to sunny yellow deep burgundy reds: keep the tones warm and the look rustic. Distressing techniques used on woodwork is an excellent touch: you want it to have that crackled, well-worn look whenever possible.
In the Kitchen
Open shelving is a wonderful French touch: add antique glass canisters and jars filled with staples such as flour, sugar, pastas, rice, beans, and more. Adorn shelves with dried lavender blossoms for a soft look that also smells delicious. Make sure to cover your tables in authentic French linens that will add a real splash of color. French products such as crockery with a rooster motif or charming unique salt and pepper shakers complete the look.
From here, you can move on to the bathrooms, dining room, and other living spaces. Remember, keep it rustic and add in splashes of warm color wherever possible.
