Southern California's Legendary Country Clubs
Those who play golf only occasionally will be pleased with Southern California's publicly-maintained municipal golf courses – but those who live in the area and plan to hit the back nine several times a week will prefer private facilities, such as one of the many legenday San Diego country clubs. These exclusive, upscale country clubs include some of the top golf courses in America. And if you're in the LA area, you're likely to find some of the Southern California golf courses located within the areas more venerable country clubs, some of which date back to the era of silent films and even before, to be haunted by the ghosts of screen legends from Hollywood's "Golden Era" of the 1930s and 1940s.
Getting In
Of course, getting in to one of the country clubs is not always easy – but if you are among the top 2% of Americans who have done extremely well over the past eight years or so, it should be little problem. In general, in order to join such country clubs, it is necessary to be sponsored by a current member who is in good standing – but those who are sufficiently wealthy and well-connected will be able to get such a sponsorship easily. The most likely way to do this is by inquiring among one's colleagues in the financial and banking industry, or contact someone who is part of your LinkedIn network. Chances are, you'll have a choice of San Diego country clubs or other SoCal organizations from which to choose.
The best part is, by joining up with colleagues and making certain you bring up some kind of business discussion during your visits, the dues you pay for the privilege of playing on private golf courses can be a tax write-off for you.

Of course, exclusive, upscale SoCal country clubs are about more than networking and prestige. Aside from the golf courses themselves, San Diego country clubs and other similar facilities in the Golden State's southern region offer fine dining as well as fully-stocked pro shops. There are also activities for the rest of the families; typical upscale country clubs offer tennis, swimming and other recreational opportunities as well as golf instruction and reception facilities for those special occasions.
