The Benefits of Using Abbreviations
Note-taking is becomes taxing when the teacher talks too fast. It is sometimes difficult to catch up and note down the information that you need when words are too long and makes it difficult for you to catch up. It would be nice to think that if only teachers could go with their discussion at a slower pace; although this is impossible, imagine all the other subjects you could miss out on because the class discussion became time consuming. This leaves you to make your writing faster. One way to do this is by abbreviating words.
An abbreviation is a process of shortening forms of word, especially titles and other proper nouns when writing used to represent the complete word. Doing this, you must be able to recognize what the word, phrase or title represents even if it is in its abbreviated form. It is important that you note down significant words as your teacher explains the topic because most of the questions you find on class tests will be based upon the information your teachers verbally present in class.
Here are lists of widely used abbreviations grouped categorically.
